24-foot Fly's Eye Dome
studioDanReiser worked for a decade on restoring, redesigning, and installing R. Buckminster Fuller’s prototype Fly’s Eye Domes.
Beginning with the restoration of Fuller’s 24-foot prototype, SDRD would oversee the first installment and exhibition of the dome in over two decades as part of the Design Miami satellite exhibition program in 2011.
Completed structure with one lens before the Dome is disassembled and shipped to Miami.
Bristol Rhode Island
The components of the Fly’s Eye were brought to master shipbuilder Goetz Composites in Bristol, Rhode Island, for a complete restoration of the original fiberglass pieces.
Seen in the background, a new lens is one of many that were fitted for the oculus of the dome.
Without previous plans to rely on, Reiser carefully reconstructed and documented how the structure should be assembled.
Architecting the Future: Buckminster Fuller / Norman Foster at Design Miami.
Reiser co-curated Architecting the Future with Buckminster Fuller Institute Executive Director, Elizabeth Thompson in 2011. The exhibition was an official satellite exhibit of the Design Miami Fair and took place in the Miami Design District.

Fly's Eye + Dymaxion
Lord Norman Foster generously loaned his Dymaxion 4 vehicle, he is pictured below with the Dymaxion and the 24-foot Dome.
The Dymaxion was a true highlight of Architecting the Future as it again brought together two of Fuller’s most innovative projects.
Perez Art Museum Miami
studioDanReiser sited and managed the installation of the 24-foot dome at the Perez Art Museum Miami in 2014. A collaboration between Design Miami and PAMM to mark the annual art fair week in Miami, the dome was located on the museum’s expansive outdoor deck and delighted visitors for several months.
The dome is part of the permanent collection of Miami-based collector and Design Miami co-founder and principal Craig Robins.
