Studio DanReiser was the instrumental lead on the evaluation, renovation, and redesign of Buckminster Fuller’s 50-foot Fly’s Eye Dome. This massive project required the collaboration of architects, engineers, fabricators, and material specialists. The coordination and logistics extended across two continents, with the dome being transported from California to New York, and finally to France and Amsterdam.
The installation of the dome demanded meticulous on-site management in two different countries, necessitating the development of instruction manuals in multiple languages. The project was hugely successful as a public urban art endeavor, transforming the urban landscapes where it was installed.
This endeavor not only preserved Fuller’s visionary design but also adapted it to contemporary standards, showcasing the innovative spirit of the team and the enduring relevance of the Fly’s Eye Dome. The project has become a celebrated example of how historical architectural works can be revitalized to engage and inspire
